After spending the weekend giving people Plants vs. Zombies to play, and then playing Trade Winds, I am beginning to wonder if the “discovery” of the casual gamer has as much to do w/ reducing the number of buttons as it does w/ creating other mechanics that have been popular with non-traditional gamers.  

Plants vs. Zombies, Farmville, Frontierville, and Trade Winds all are pretty complex.  There is more hand-holding, but I think there is something about a controller that bristles with buttons that is an immediate turn-off to people who aren’t comfortable with games.

It makes you wonder if the same effect turns people off from complex subjects (education, workplace training, software, etc.)…

… uses two spaces after every period. Which—for the record—is totally, completely, utterly, and inarguably wrong.
